PALAKKAD: Jagadish Khattar, Managing Director of Maruti Udyog Ltd., has said that diesel cars from the company's plant at Manesar in Haryana will be launched this year. At a press conference here on Friday, he said the work on the Rs. 3,000-crore diesel plant was getting completed. Another Rs. 2,700 crores was being spent on upgrading the Gurgaon plant, also in Haryana. He said the company would be spending Rs. 6,000 crores in three years on research and development and expansion programmes. Replying to a question on going in for CNG- and LPG-based vehicles, Mr. Khattar said the company was working on gas-based vehicles, though these fuels were not available in most parts of the country. But it was going to bring out LPG-based WagonR models shortly. Already, the Omni had an LPG model, he said.
