SHIMLA: Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has said that his Government was planning to take up the matter of connecting the industrial areas of the State such as Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh with a broad gauge railway line with the Centre. While talking to a delegation of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said the State Government would constitute a Special Area Development Authority with a corpus fund for these areas. He also said the State was trying to get an extension of the special industrial package given to Himachal up to 2013. Mr. Singh claimed that the hill State was already providing good infrastructure to the industry. He said that a proposal to set up a Special Area Development Authority for the industrial areas had been mooted keeping in view the different developmental requirements of these areas. He said that the Authority so constituted would be replicated in other industrial areas. He said that the Authority would provide corpus funds for carrying out local developmental activities such as roads, municipal services and planned development of the industrial towns, green areas and healthy environs for development of the area.
In its infancy
The Chief Minister said that the industry was still in its infancy in the State and he would take up the matter of extension of special industrial package up to the year 2013, on par with rest of the special category States with the Central Government. He said that Himachal Pradesh was one of the States which had been provided industrial package up to the year 2007 only while the others States have been provided the same concessions up to the year 2013.
