KOLKATA: Mittal Steel has chosen Hatch Associates of Canada for providing consulting and engineering services for preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the Jharkhand steel project. Prior to the DPR, Hatch will prepare a concept study and provide professional services for the analysis of the market for steel products in India and prepare a concept and design basis for the proposed 12 million tonne steel plant announced by L. N. Mittal last year, says a release. Sanak Mishra, CEO of Mittal Steel's Jharkhand project, said the appointment of Hatch was a major move by Mittal Steel to set up a world-class steel plant in Jharkhand. The project is expected to entail an investment of about Rs. 40,000 crore and is proposed to be developed in two-phases, with the first phase (six million tonnes) getting completed in 48 months after signing the DPR agreement and the next phase in 54 months thereafter.
