BUCHAREST: A leading lawyer has pleaded for the life of a dog whose bite allegedly killed a Japanese businessman, in a case that has shocked Romanians and provoked a debate about Bucharest's stray dogs. Hajime Hori, 68, was bitten in the left leg on January 29. The police said the bite hit an artery in his thigh and he bled to death within minutes. Mr. Hori was entering his apartment building in the centre of the capital when the attack occurred. "I have asked for a forensic report about the incident. It seems that the Japanese man died of a heart attack and not due to the bite," said lawyer Paula Iacob. Ms. Iacob, a renowned Romanian lawyer, is representing animal rights' group Cutu-Cutu in the case.
The city of more than two million people has about 2,00,000 stray dogs. AP
