KOZHIKODE: Janata Dal (S) State president M.P. Veerendrakumar, MP, has warned the proposal to allow more private participation in Railways would have an adverse effect. The moves as indicated by Lalu Prasad's budget introduced in Lok Sabha on Friday appeared to be to implement the proposals of the Rakesh Mohan Committee, which were in favour of total privatisation of Railways, he remarked. The Janata Dal leader said reduction in fares for travel by air-conditioned coaches without reducing fares for second class travellers would sent a "wrong message" to the common people. Mr. Veerendrakumar also was of the view that there was nothing to cheer for Keralites in the budget though three new services had been sanctioned since there had been a cut in Plan fund allocation for Kerala, which would delay completion of ongoing projects. Mr. Prasad was silent even on the demand for a Railway Zone for Kerala, Mr. Veerendrakumar said reacting to the recommendations in Railway budget.
