ANANTAPUR: Omission of the Hindupur MP's name in an invitation printed by the Khadri Narasimhaswamy temple at Kadiri in the district led to a tense situation in the municipal town on Saturday evening, after the supporters of MP D. Nizamuddin allegedly ransacked the temple office. According to the information reaching here and the police, the `dhwaja stambham' in the temple was uprooted four months ago and its re-installation was slated for March 2.
Prominent invitees
Temple officials got invitation cards printed for the occasion, but it allegedly missed the name of the Hindupur MP. Kadiri falls under Hindupur parliamentary constituency. The invitation has the names of Panchayat Raj and Endowments Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy, Agriculture and Civil Supplies Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy, Kadiri legislator J. Ramaiah and also that of the Endowments Commissioner. After learning their leader's name was missing on in the invitation on Saturday afternoon, staunch followers of the MP P. Shamir Basha and Prabhakar Naidu allegedly barged into the temple office along with their supporters, used filthy language against the temple staff and security and ransacked furniture in protest. They also allegedly tore all invitation cards available in the office and warned of dire consequences if their leader's name was not included. Executive Officer of the temple, Laxminarayana, was not available in the town as he went to Hyderabad to extend invitations to higher officials.
Official's version
The temple staff, in an unofficial explanation, stated that the invitation cards were not printed as per the protocol. If that had been followed it should even have the name of Nallamada legislator K. Mohan Reddy, they said. As the situation turned ense in and around the temple, DSP K. Subramanyam, Kadiri CI Ramakrishna and Nallamada CI G. Ramakrishnaiah rushed to the temple with men. Dharmavaram ASP Akun Sabharwal, OSD G. Vijaykumar also rushed to Kadiri to take stock of the situation. A large number of people gathered in and outside the temple after the news of MP's supporters' vandalism. The staff and security of the temple lodged separate complaints with the police. The police officials assured action against those vandalised the office to pacify the public gathered. They also held a meeting with the local BJP functionaries to prevent any deterioration in the atmosphere.
