Stage set for industrial revolution in Nellore, says Chief Minister

NELLORE: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for the mega footwear unit of the Apache group at Mambattu village of Tada mandal in Nellore district on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the stage was set for an industrial revolution in Nellore district. Though there were some small units in the district, employing around 2,000 people in all, the latest unit would not only be a major one but had the capacity to provide job opportunities for around 30,000 people, he said.

The Chief Minister, who arrived here one hour behind schedule, made a brief speech, keeping in view his long itinerary.

He projected a rosy picture of industrialisation of the State, mainly due to cheap supply of electricity to industries which, in turn, would result in more prosperity.

"With this present venture, the stage is set for the entry of more industrial units," asserted the Chief Minister. The footwear unit will be spread in an extent of 340 acres, with an expected investment of around Rs. 700 crores.

Changed scenario

Teams from Volkswagen and General Motors had earlier visited the area, raising hopes of possible ventures. While their fate is still unknown, the establishment of the footwear unit has changed the scenario of Tada mandal.

With Chennai being nearby, having all modern and international facilities, Mambattu may soon become an industrial corridor.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi, State Ministers-- N. Rajyalakshmi and J. Geetha Reddy-- Sullurpet M.L.A. N. Subramanyam, Tirupati M.P, Chinta Mohan, district Collector M. Ravichandra and top officials were present on the occasion.

Representatives of the Apache group also spoke.
