Warning against pilferage of water

KOCHI: The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has warned that the water connection of consumers who use pumps to pilfer water would be disconnected without any notice. This was decided at a meeting held in the backdrop of water scarcity in many parts of the city. A few water connections have been disconnected in surprise checks conducted on SRM Road, A.M. Thomas Road, Chitoor Road, P.J. Antony Road, Pottakuzhi Road, Thottakkat Road and Shanmugham Road. The drive will continue through summer, KWA sources said.— Staff Reporter

Congress meet

KOCHI: Many national-level leaders of the Congress are expected to participate in the State meeting of the party, scheduled to be held in Kochi from March 3 to 7. They include Congress party president Sonia Gandhi; Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee, Kamal Nath, Priyaranjan Das Munshi, Ambika Soni and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh, said a press release issued by the party. — Staff Reporter

Demand to extend

bus services

KOCHI: The Goshree Bus Service Samara Samithy staged a dharna at the High Court Junction on Saturday demanding that bus services from the islands be extended to the city. The dharna was inaugurated by Mayor Mercy Williams. Those who spoke include the MLAs K.V. Thomas and M.A. Kuttapan; convener of the Samithy Majnu Komath; district secretary of CPI Mundakayam Sadasivan; Vypeen block panchayat president M.K. Purushottaman and leaders of a host of political parties. — Staff Reporter

Endocrinology OP

KOCHI: The endocrinology out-patient department of the Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences will function on Sundays too, from March 5. This is in keeping with the demand from patients. Medical director of AIMS Prem Nair said this would be extended to other departments in the near future. — Staff Reporter
