KOCHI: The civic authorities have made elaborate arrangements on the banks of the Periyar in Aluva for the Sivarathri festival on Sunday. Tens of thousands of devotees are expected to visit the township for the religious event. The Manappuram will have all facilities, including a temporary police station, fire station and first aid units of Aluva Taluk Hospital and Amritha Hospital. Ambulances of private hospitals in Aluva will also be arranged. Floodlights will be set up at the venue. Barricades have been put up to control the crowds wherever necessary. The Aluva Municipal office will also function temporarily at the Manappuram. The phone number is 2609000. The phone number of the temporary police station is 2603333. Diving experts of the Navy and Fire Force will be deployed at the Manappuram. A police force consisting of 1,200 personnel will be deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the festivities. Country boats plying to Sivarathri Manappuram will be tested for safety. Overloading of people in the boats will be strictly controlled. The Travancore Devaswam Board has made all arrangements for the devotees, including 210 balitharas. The TDB charges Rs.1,500 as rent from one balithara.
