KOCHI: A total of 12,250 people have completed the e-literacy programme through the Akshaya project in Ernakulam district. The district administration officials said a member each from 6,90,645 households will be imparted computer training. Local bodies have to make a provision of Rs.5.74 crores for the e-literacy programme in the district. Of this, local bodies have transferred Rs.3.83 crores to the Akshaya fund and measures have been initiated to ensure that the remaining fund requirement is met. Social animators who will link the local bodies with the beneficiaries are being chosen through the various panchayats, block panchayats and urban local bodies. Survey is also under way to identify the beneficiaries who will be trained through the Akshaya programme. It has been decided that there will two centres in each panchayat, seven in each municipality and 14 in the Corporation of Cochin area. This implies that there will be a total of 261 Akshaya centres in Ernakulam district. According to information received here, 162 centres have been readied for the e-literacy programme. A communication from the district administration also appealed to the local bodies, voluntary agencies and Kudumbashree activists to cooperate in making the e-literacy programme a success.
