BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy got an idea of the desires and aspirations of people during the `Janata Darshan' programme here on Saturday. Mr. Kumaraswamy smiled at the request of an aged man with a disability who submitted a memorandum expressing his ambition to become a legislator. The man, from Chamarajpet, told Mr. Kumaraswamy that he needed to be a member of the Rajya Sabha or the Legislative Council to serve the people.
Seeks Council seat
Parthiban, a retired Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. employee, said he had been in the Janata Dal (Secular) for a long time and worked for the victory of the party candidate Jamir Ahmed in the Chamarajpet byelection. "Please consider my services to the party and offer me a seat in the Council." The Chief Minister assured him that he would provide him with a suitable job considering his service to the party. Hundreds of people from different parts of the State stood in a long queue at the Chief Minister's official residence, `Krishna,' since early in the day. While some came along with party workers, others came on their own. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti and Magadi MLA H.C. Balakrishna were with the Chief Minister during the programme. Shantappa Barappa Koranna, 78, from Byada village in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district sought compensation from the Government for the death of his 27-year-old-son who was electrocuted. Mr. Koranna said, "I lost my only son who was working in Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. on contract. I have no source of livelihood now." Mr, Koranna, father of five, pleaded with the Chief Minister for some financial assistance. Mr. Horatti intervened and explained to Mr. Kumaraswamy the seriousness of the family's problem. The Chief Minister directed officials to pay compensation immediately to Mr. Koranna. Before the `Janata Darshan' began, V. Murthy of Karnataka Janandolana shouted slogans seeking justice for poor people living in Lingarajapuram in Bangalore. He told the Chief Minister that anti-social elements had cornered houses constructed for the poor by the Karnataka Housing Board. He urged the Government to distribute the houses to the poor for whom it was meant. Mr. Kumaraswamy told him that he would instruct Housing Board officials to take appropriate action.
Medical expenses
A heart patient, Mariyappa, a resident of Bangalore, sought money from the Chief Minister for medical expenses. Mr. Kumaraswamy told him to go to Narayana Hrudayalaya for treatment. "You go to the hospital today. The Government will meet your entire medical expenses," the Chief Minister told the petitioner.
