Dharmapuri: Water was released from the Vaaniyar Dam in Pappireddipatti taluk for irrigation purposes here on Saturday. Collector M. Chandrasekaran opened the sluice gates following a directive from the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa. A release said the water level in the dam touched its full level in the recent rain. Water would be released from the left and right irrigation canals once in four days for a period of 40 days benefiting 10,517 acres in the villages of Molayanur, Venkatasamudiram, Thenkaraikottai, Menasi, Alapuram, Jammanahalli, Mookanur, Pappireddipatti, Alamelupuram, Thalampatti and Pudhupatti. Now the water level in the dam is 418 mcft. The Collector has appealed to the public to make the judicious use of the available water in cooperation with the Public Works D.epartment. Superintending Engineer, PWD-Water Resources Organisation, S. Ayannan, attended.
