TDP leader unable to come to terms with loss of power, says Congress

HYDERABAD: Ridiculing the talk of the Third Front at the national level, which was reportedly discussed by the Telugu Desam Polit Bureau on Saturday, the Congress Legislature Party has asked TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu to enter the Rajya Sabha and lead the front.

"Only Mr. Naidu is capable of leading the third alternative at the national level as he has earlier played a key role in national politics," Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he alleged that Mr. Naidu was behaving as if he had lost his balance every time he saw the Chief Minister's seat in the Assembly.

Hence, the claims that every achievement in the State was because of his (Mr. Naidu's) policies.

"We can understand his agony of losing power after enjoying it," he said.

`No dearth of leaders'

If Mr. Naidu shifts to the Rajya Sabha to lead the Third Front, he need not worry about the party in the State.

There were senior leaders like T. Devender Goud, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Nagam Janardhan Reddy as well as young leaders like P. Keshav who could take care of the party here.

`Helpful to Congress'

Moreover, Mr. Naidu's shifting to national politics would help the State as he could mount pressure on the Centre for projects relating to the State.

Asked whether it meant that State's special representative, Mallu Ravi, was ineffective, he said Mr. Ravi was working effectively and Mr. Naidu's presence would only bolster his efforts to secure more projects for the State.
