ANANTAPUR: B. Venkatesulu, the upa-sarpanch of Garudachedu village in Kanekal mandal and his mother attempted suicide by consuming pesticide after Kanekal Sub-Inspector Krishna Reddy and three constables allegedly attacked them in their house around 1.30 a.m. on Sunday. The two were admitted to the General Hospital here. According to the information reaching here, Mr. Venkatesulu belonged to the TDP and the SI had allegedly been trying to implicate him in the recent months. Accordingly, the SI had first booked an illicit arrack case against him a couple of months back, but the latter came out on bail.
Beaten up
The SI went to the house of Venkatesulu after midnight along with three constables and beat him up badly, seeking to know how long he would have freedom. When Venkatesulu's mother questioned the SI why he was targeting her son, the SI allegedly kicked her in the stomach repeatedly. As the woman was operated upon twice recently due to some ailment, she collapsed immediately. When the SI was still beating her son, she got up, went inside and came with a pesticide bottle and consumed the contents. Her son also followed suit. Fearing that the situation was going out of their hands, the SI and constables fled the scene. Neighbours of Venkatesulu took the two to a private hospital at Kanekal first and after getting first aid, they were moved to the General Hospital here.
SI not available
The SI was unavailable when tried for a clarification several times, as his mobile was out of calling area. It is reliably learnt that the SI was allegedly victimised by the TDP leaders when their party was in power and he was trying to take revenge now. He had allegedly foisted another case against Venkatesulu.
