KOLLAM: Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) president K. Muraleedharan has said his party had already taken up the issue of releasing People's Democratic Party leader Abdul Nasir Maudany with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leadership during the first round of talks with the party in Chennai. Taking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said the DIC(K) would follow up the issue with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during the second round of talks to be held next month on a possible political alliance in Kerala. He reiterated that his party was preparing to fight the elections on its own. Under the given situation, the DIC(K) will field candidates in all the 140 constituencies for the coming Assembly elections. "We do not claim that we are going to win in 100 constituencies by contesting in all 140." But there will be DIC(K) representation in the Assembly. Mr. Muraleedharan said the DIC(K) would be in a position to help both the UDF and the LDF when things came to a crucial juncture. Following the Left Democratic Front (LDF) decision not to accommodate the DIC(K) in its fold, the DIC(K) has engaged in exchange of views with various political parties, including the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). "That exercise is not with the intention of joining any front. Whether or not the UDF has engaged the Muslim League to formally deliberate with the DIC(K) is not an issue for his party," he said.
