HYDERABAD: Mild tension prevailed at Marutinagar in Lalitha Bagh of the old city on Sunday morning after unidentified persons vandalised a place of worship in the middle of the area. The priest found burnt fragments of photographs of gods lying outside the place of worship, leading to an outcry from residents of the locality.
Police rushed
The committee members immediately informed the Chatrinaka police who rushed forces to the spot to avoid any flare-ups. The police suspect the mischief could be the handiwork of miscreants who used to loiter around the isolated place of worship in the nights. "There seems to be no communal angle to the incident," according to Chatrinaka SI Y.V. Rao. However, with the construction of a compound wall around the structure being stopped at the pillar stage for the last five years reportedly for want of funds, the police suspect the mischief could be a result of a land dispute as well. A police picket has been posted in the area while investigation is on.
6 held for violence
Meanwhile, the police arrested six youngsters for causing damage to idols in front of Darbar Maisamma temple which led to unrest in the sensitive Tappachabutra area on Saturday. According to the police, the six persons N. Bhaskar, G. Laxminarayana, Chiranjeevi, N. Rupeshwar Rao, A. Ramesh and Sudeshwar, all aged between 19 and 25 years of age are residents of Karwan and Ziaguda areas. They will be produced before the court on Monday.
