BELLARY: P. Abdul of the Hospet-based Bhavaikyata Vedike is among the 10 persons to receive the Sandesha Foundation Award 2006. The award will be presented to the winners in Mangalore on Tuesday. The vedike, which was started in 1990 by involving children from slums, began creating awareness among the people about various social issues, including promoting communal harmony, environment, gender equality, literacy, health, by staging street plays and participating in national and State-level drama festivals.
Media education award
The Sandesha Foundation has presented the Sandesha Media Education Award to the vedike in recognition of its contribution to society. K.M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, will present the awards. M. Veerappa Moily, former Chief Minister, T.S. Nagabharana, filmmaker, Seetharam Kulal, chairman of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Eric Ozario, chairman of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, and Aloysius P. D'Souza, Chairman of Sandesha Foundation, will be present at the function.
