Thiruvananthapuram: A 32-year-old man who was in an inebriated condition attacked a luxury bus and a tipper lorry near the satellite railway terminal, Kochuveli, on Monday afternoon. According to the police, the glass panes of the bus and the lorry, which were parked near the goods yard colony, were damaged in the attack by Binu. A team from the Pettah police station rushed to the spot and took Binu, a lorry driver, into custody and shifted him to the station. However, the accused tried to commit suicide while he was at the Pettah police station, the police said. Binu banged his head on the grill of the police station building around 6.30 p.m., the police said. A constable, Surendran, who tried to intervene was injured. His left hand was fractured. The police have registered a case. Binu will be produced in court later.
Car stolen
A car that was parked in the porch of a house in the high security Cliff House area under the Museum police station limits was reportedly stolen on Sunday night. The 2002-make car was taken away after the locked gates of the building were removed. The car belonged to a teacher of a school at Nanthancode. The SI (Museum) said he had received a complaint and was looking into the incident.
Case against school manager
The police have registered a case against the manager of Fort High School for assaulting the Headmistress of the school on Monday evening. According to the police, a case had been registered against the manager, Ramaswamy, 74, on the basis of the complaint given by the Headmistress, Rajamma. The incident took place around 5 p.m. on the school premises. The decision of the Headmistress to allot classrooms for the PSC test for four days last week had led to the dispute.
Theft from hospital room
Gold ornaments weighing nine sovereigns and Rs.5,000 in cash were stolen from a private ayurvedic hospital near the Collectorate on Saturday. According to the Vanchiyoor police, the jewellery and the cash were kept in a vanity bag in an almirah by Santhakumari, a resident of Chervalom, Kallara, who had come to the hospital for the treatment of her daughter, Gita. The incident took place when Ms. Gita came down from her room to meet the doctor around 2 p.m. on Saturday. Ms. Santhakumari came out of the room on receiving a telephone call asking her to rush down with clothes for Ms. Gita. The police have registered a case.
