Run and support a cause

Special Correspondent

The second Lipton Bangalore International Marathon will be held on May 14

Bangalore: The second Lipton Bangalore International Marathon will be held on May 14. Last year, the marathon was held on May 15 and had over 22,000 participants, creating a record for the city. More Bangaloreans are expected to run for a cause this year also.

Same route

The 42.195 km marathon, the 21.1 km half marathon and the 7 km celebration run across the city will follow the same route as in the previous year.

The marathon will be flagged off from Kanteerava Stadium at 5 a.m. and will make its way around the town, touching landmarks such as the Vidhana Soudha, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Cubbon Park, General Post Office, Karnataka High Court and Sir Seshadri Iyer Memorial Central Library before culminating at the stadium.

Participants have a choice to run and raise money for a social cause they want to support.

Pledges during the run will be channelised through I-CONGO, Indian Confederation of NGOs, the official charity partner of the marathon. I-CONGO is a national collective of over 156 NGOs working for social causes including child rights, education, community welfare and disability, environment, wildlife and animal rights.

The Lipton Bangalore event is being organised by Crossover under the aegis of the Karnataka Athletics Association and supported by the Government of Karnataka. President of the KAA Parameshwar said the first marathon was featured on the cover of the Distance Running magazine and got international recognition.

Over the next three months, more sponsors are expected to get involved with the event.
