BJP will raise Government's "minorityism"

Special Correspondent

Expose United Progressive Alliance's "wrong policies" before people, says Advani

  • Notice given for discussion on Kashmir round table
  • Party will also focus on democratic functioning

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday reiterated its decision to raise in Parliament defreezing of the London bank accounts of the Bofors payoffs case accused Ottavio Quattrocchi; the Volcker Report on oil vouchers given by the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq, and the Scorpene deal. There was corruption in these issues, the party alleged.

At the weekly meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party here, it was also decided to raise issues of the United Progressive Alliance Government's "minorityism."

The party opposes the idea of a round table on self-rule and autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir. "A notice for a discussion on the Kashmir round table conference has already been given to the Speaker," said the party deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, V.K. Malhotra.

    Foreigners Act

The BJP is of the view that an amendment proposed by the UPA will dilute the Foreigners Act. It is against attempts to introduce reservation for Muslims in educational institutions and jobs. The party has expressed its strong opposition to the Rajinder Sachar Committee's "survey" of Muslims in various jobs.

The third group of issues it proposes to focus on relates to "democratic functioning". It includes the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly last year and painter M.F. Husain's nude depiction of "Mother India."Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani, who presided, advised the party MPs to expose the UPA's "wrong policies" before the people in their constituencies.

He expressed the hope that the Assembly elections in West Bengal would be free and fair and said the ruling Left Front would be defeated if this exercise was ensured.
