NEW DELHI: The budget allocation for the Prime Minister's Office, Cabinet, National Advisory Council, Special Protection Group (SPG) for 2006-07 was put at Rs. 219 crores. While Rs 16.06 crore has been earmarked for the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the allocation for tour expenses for the Union Ministers has been kept at Rs. 45.18 crores. The allocation for the elite SPG, which provides proximate security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and members of their immediate family, has been raised to Rs. 132 crore, up from Rs. 125 crore given last year. Among the Central Police organisations, major hikes have gone to the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Special Police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and National Security Guard (NSG). While the allocation for the CRPF has gone up from Rs. 2,965 crore to Rs. 3,185 crore in 2006-07 budget proposals, Rs. 3,355.92 crore has been earmarked for the Border Security Force (BSF) up from Rs. 3,309 crore given last year.

Similarly, NSG gets Rs. 133.71 crore in 2006-07 budget as against Rs. 130.81 crore given to the specialised anti-terrorism crack federal force. Special Police which includes reimbursements to State Governments for expenditure incurred for maintenance of border check posts gets Rs. 951 crore as against Rs. 442 crore given in the last year's budget, almost doubling its allocation. The allocation for SSB, the border guarding force detailed on Indo-Nepal border from Uttaranchal to Sikkim, goes up to Rs. 697.39 crore as against Rs. 538.12 crore given to it in the last budget. The allocation for Delhi Police gets a substantial boost from Rs. 1,291 crore to Rs. 1,329.63 crore in the 2006-07 budget. With the Indo-Bangladesh border fencing and construction of roads going full swing, the allocation has declined from Rs. 573 crore to Rs. 560.97 crore. The allocation for India-Pakistan border works has been kept at Rs. 249.92 crore, marginally high from Rs. 235.31 crore given last year.
