SBI plans to increase lending to agriculture sector

Bank organises `Krishi Utsav' to distribute certificates to 180 SHGs

GULBARGA: State Bank of India (SBI) general manager Partha Bhattacharya on Tuesday reiterated the commitment of the bank to step up lending in the agriculture sector.

Mr. Bhattacharya was presiding over the inauguration of the Krishi Utsav at Gobbur (B) in Afsalpur taluk in Gulbarga district.

He said the bank has provided an assistance of Rs. 1,019 crores in the State through its 100 agriculture intensive branches this year. He said so far the bank has provided 14,733 Kisan Credit Cards and 2,864 Kisan Gold Cards and extended loans to buy 3,000 tractors in the last two years. It has funded over 350 lift irrigation schemes and helped farmers to provide irrigation to over 3,200 acres of land this financial year.

He distributed certificates linking up 180 self-help groups (SHGs) sponsored by the DHAN Foundation with an assured financial assistance of Rs. 1.79 crores to these 180 SHGs. He said so far 1,983 SHGs have been linked up with the bank with financial assistance aggregating to Rs. 10.09 crores to these SHGs.

Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Pankajkumar Pandey, who inaugurated the "Krishi Utsav", lauded SBI's commitment to step up financial assistance to the agriculture sector. Assistant General Manager of the Regional Business Office of the bank in Gulbarg B. Vijayamohan, Assistant General Manager (Agriculture Business) R.N. Hegde, Chief Manager (Agriculture) Suryanarayan, Chandrasekhar of the Command Area Development Authority, and DHAN Foundation Project Executive Hanumanthappa, spoke.
