Union Home Minister criticised for not according special status to the region

A BURNING PROBLEM: Members of the Hyderabad-Karnataka Horata Samiti burning an effigy of Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil in Gulbarga on Tuesday in protest against his refusal to concede the demand to amend Article 371 of the Constitution to provide special reservation in employment and education for the people of the region.

GULBARGA: Members of the Hyderabad-Karnataka Horata Samiti, under the leadership of the former legislator and samiti secretary, Hanumanthrao Desai, staged a demonstration at the Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk here on Tuesday condemning the Centre for not conceding the demand for amending Article 371 of the Constitution to provide special reservation in employment and education to the people of backward regions of the state. The samiti, which is spearheading an agitation seeking a separate State of Hyderabad-Karnataka, on the plea that the region has been neglected by successive State governments, burnt an effigy of Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil for rejecting the demand of the State Government to amend the Article 371. The samiti volunteers, led by the former legislator and samiti general secretary, Hanumanthrao Desai, blocked the road near the Vallabhai Patil Chowk for some time.
