Letters to the Editor
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has done well by allaying the fears of our scientists on possible safeguards on fast-breeder reactors (Feb. 28). Every aspect of the Indo-U.S. civilian nuclear deal should be examined thoroughly to avoid misinterpretations. The two countries should not, at a future date, accuse each other of shifting the goalposts before inking the final deal.
Harveer Singh Chauhan,
India will have to explore alternative sources of energy. Jatropha, an oil-bearing plant that grows in wastelands and requires little care, has long been touted as a potential answer to India's energy problems. Ethanol is another viable alternative to fossil fuels. E85, that is a combination of 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent gasoline, has been tried out as fuel abroad.
