Madikeri: Alumni association of the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa (FMKMC) College here will seek permission to convert land around the institution into a botanical garden, K.K. Devaiah, its president, said here on Monday. A memorandum in this regard will be submitted to Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University K.M. Kaveriappa when the association felicitates him on March 3, Major Devaiah said. The association , in support of the FMKMC college, would be honouring Prof. Kaveriappa, who hails from Kodagu. Prof. Kaveriappa had taken over as the vice-chancellor of Mangalore University recently. Maj. Devaiah said the proposed botanical garden will help in research work and safeguard the property of the college. The property will be fenced and compound wall constructed, he said. The association is on the lookout for funds, he said. Maj. Devaiah said K.G. Bopaiah, Madikeri MLA, and M.M. Nanaiah, former Minister, will be the guests for the felicitation function.

Maj. Devaiah and association vice-president Muneer Ahmad appealed to old students to enrol as members of the association and urged members of the association to take part actively in the felicitations on March 3. Other members of the Association, Prof. Subbaiah, Kaveramma Poovanna and Poovanna, were present.
