MADIKERI: Water is being released from the Harangi reservoir since February 20 to irrigate achcut areas in Kodagu, said an official press release issued here on Tuesday. The release of water in four stages will irrigate crops in 17,688 acres of land. While the first phase will last from February 20 to March 6, the second phase will be from March 19 to 30, the third from April 10 to 21 and the last phase from May 2 to 13. This will help farmers who are cultivating maize, ragi, groundnut, sunflower, green gram and others. On the right bank canal, water will be released from the extension canal 1 to 14 up to 21.175 km, covering 9,047 acres. On the left bank canal, it will be released from the extension canal 1 to 34, covering 8,641 acres.
Inflow
The quantum of water to be released will be decided based on the storage in the reservoir and the inflow. Farmers have been asked to grow only prescribed crops.
