Science makes for good entertainment

Kendriya Vidyalaya students celebrate Science Day

KURNOOL: Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya celebrated Science Day here on Tuesday. They presented skits, songs and dramas with scientific themes.

The participants presented `kavvali' on the benefits of eating vegetables. Another team demonstrated the law of flotation making citrus fruits float in salt water. Skits were presented on adulteration of food items by unscrupulous traders, superstitions and benefits of oral rehydration in treating diarrhoea.

The birth anniversary of Nobel Prize winner Sir C.V. Raman is celebrated as Science Day in the country.

Principal of Kendriya Vidyala Sundari Krishna Murthy in her welcome address congratulated the students, who presented scientific ideas in the form of popular cultural items. She called upon the students to adopt a lifestyle that helped co-existence with nature. The precious environment could not be rebuilt once destroyed, she said.

Science museum opened

Kadapa Staff Reporter writes: Kadapa Collector G. Asok Kumar inaugurated the district science museum and called upon students to adopting of scientific temper in daily life. He said that in rural areas, elderly people unknowingly used several science principles in their daily chores like in drawing water from well, using jockey for repair of vehicle punctures, etc.

He exhorted teachers and students to develop new science exhibits. Thirty-five exhibits were supplied by B.M. Birla Science Centre, Hyderabad, to help students learn science, said Assistant Project Coordinator of Sarva Siksha Abhiyam N. Easwaraiah.

District Science Officer Nissar Hussain stressed the need for scientific education, which to help eradicate superstitions.
