Rabri threatens BJP MLA

K. Balchand

Provoked by accusations from Treasury benches

PATNA: Provoked by accusations from the Treasury benches on Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi brandished her slipper at her detractors. This sparked an uproar in the Bihar Assembly.

Ms. Rabri Devi expressed indignation at Janata Dal (United) member Renu Devi for the charges she levelled during her speech on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address. But she could not control herself when Bharatiya Janata Party member Ramadhar Singh gestured that the Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders were destined to land in jail.

To Renu Devi's allegation that RJD leaders perpetrated crime in the State, Ms. Rabri Devi stood up and made personal remarks against her, forcing Speaker Udai Narain Chaudhary to expunge them.

Even as things seemed to be quietening, Mr. Singh gestured with crossed hands. At this Ms. Rabri Devi removed her slipper and waved it at Mr. Singh, leading to an uproar from both sides. Neither Chief Minister Nitish Kumar nor Deputy Chief Minister S.K. Modi was in the House then.
