BANGALORE: It was heartening to see legislators treat matters of politics and constitutional etiquette differently. After the acrimony in the legislature, it was bonhomie at the Raj Bhavan. Congress legislators were present in strength at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday evening attending the Governor's high tea. It was difficult to believe that they walked out of the joint session of the legislature on Friday in protest against the Governor's second address of the year. More than that, only hours earlier in the day they had engaged themselves in heated debates and dharnas in the Legislative Assembly over the Speaker's ruling on that address. Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N. Dharam Singh and State Congress President M. Mallikarjun Kharge sat with Governor T.N. Chaturvedi and exchanged pleasantries. New and former ministers used the occasion to share jokes. For some others it was the perfect time to pose for photographs. Some legislators also used the occasion to invite Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to their constituencies to inaugurate development works. Legislative Council Chairman V.R. Sudarshan, ministers Basavaraj Horatti, Jagadish Shettar, D.H. Shankaramurthy, Ramachandra Gowda V.S. Acharya, Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, C.M. Udasi, Bandeppa Kashempur and B. Nagaraj Shetty, the former Deputy Chief Ministers M.P. Prakash and Siddaramaiah and the former ministers H.K. Patil, Roshan Baig and R.V. Deshpande attended the programme. Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa could not make it to the Raj Bhavan. Talking to presspersons, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Government is not for extending the midday meal scheme up to the 10th standard as it would cause a big financial burden on the exchequer. The previous Government took the decision to extend the scheme up to the 10th standard. The Chief Minister was replying to a question on an additional allocation of Rs. 4,300 crores made in the Union Budget for the midday meal scheme.
