Air Marshal B.N. Gokhale takes charge

BANGALORE: Air Marshal Bhushan Nilkanth Gokhale took over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Air Force's Bangalore-based Training Command.

The Air Marshal was commissioned into the IAF's fighter stream in 1968. He has held a variety of operational and staff appointments.

Air Marshal Gokhale is a recipient of the Ati Vishisht Sena Medal and the Vayu Sena Medal. — Staff Reporter

High Court dismisses plea by Bharati Urs

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition by Bharati Urs, daughter of the late Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs, seeking transfer of the Chitralekha murder case trial, in which she is an accused, from a local court in Bangalore to another court.

Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh dismissed the petition, saying that the statements in the petition could not be considered as adequate grounds for the transfer of the case to another sessions court. — Staff Reporter

Pre-entrance training programme

DHARWAD: A pre-entrance training programme for candidates aspiring to join military and sainik schools will be held at Maratha Infantry Regiment Centre, Belgaum from April 20 to May 30, states a press release.

H.D. Basavaraj made national secretary

Madikeri: Virajpet MLA H.D. Basavaraj has been appointed national Secretary of the Scheduled Tribes (ST) Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to information received here on Tuesday.

National President of the morcha Jaskaur Meena has asked Mr. Basavaraj to attend a meeting of the morcha in New Delhi on March 5 and 6. Mr. Basavaraj is currently President of the State BJP ST Morcha. — Staff Reporter

Pilot project launched

MYSORE: A pilot project for promotion of micro enterprises among members of Self-Help Groups was launched by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development at Rudset Institute in Mysore on Tuesday. Inaugurating the project, Chief General Manager of NaBARD, Karnataka, B.B. Mohanty said Mysore is among one of the ten districts identified in the country for implementation of the project that aims at initiating an SHG-Bank linkage. - Staff Correspondent
