`Ambassador unfazed'

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Hindustan Motors (HM) is unfazed by the duty concessions announced to the small car segment in the budget. It actually sees a positive rub-off from the budget especially through the measures for boosting the tourism industry and the leg-up given to the manufacturing sector.

An official spokesperson of the C. K. Birla group told The Hindu that cheaper small cars were not expected to impact sales of Ambassadors which now average at 13,000 cars annually. "These are two mutually exclusive areas," she said, adding that the budget held promise for HM in the auto component sector and through the measures announced for tourism promotion.
