BANGALORE : Uttar Pradesh scored another thumping win when it swamped Gujarat 12-0 in the all-India Police hockey tournament at the KSHA stadium here. Pramod Karan Singh slotted in five goals while S. Mishra scored a brace. Devendra Pratap Singh, Laljee Yadav, Syed Yusuf Hassan, Avinash Saxena and Deepak Thakur also pitched in with one goal apiece. UP had beaten RPF 7-1 on Monday. In a pool C Match, Bihar beat Rajasthan 4-2 with Walter Kandulna scoring a hat-trick and Patraus Hans scoring the last goal. Rajasthan's scorers were Sunil Kumar and Islamuddin. Central Reserve Police Force beat Seema Suraksha Bal 6-2 after the teams were locked 2-2 at the half time. SSB's Dewan Singh scored first and Gunamni Singh made it 2-0 for SSB. But CRPF bounced back to turn the tide. Vencen Hemron scored a double, Jolen Topno, Rajesh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar and Nemhas Khakha scored the other goals. RPF and Chandigarh played out a 2-2 draw with B.S Karande and A Sen scoring for RPF and Ashok Dubey and Paramjit Singh scoring for Chandigarh.
Gururaj shines
Gururaj Chavan's allround show (51 and four for 63) helped Star Cricketers defeat Merchants CC (2) by 146 runs in the KSCA Group I fifth division league pre-quarterfinals in Bangalore recently. Star Cricketers scored 247 and bowled out Merchants for 101. The scores (pre-quarterfinals): Star Cricketers 247 in 43.3 overs (Gururaj Chavan 51, Suresh five for 86) bt Merchants CC (2) 101 in 16.5 overs (Gururaj Chavan four for 63). Silky Town CC 168 in 43.1 overs (M. Hussain 47, Krishna four for 25) lost to Vijaya CC 169 for six in 38 overs (Narayana Swamy 43 n.o.). United CC 138 in 37.1 overs lost to City Gymkhana 139 for six in 29.1 overs; National UCC 191 in 36.5 overs (Chelston 45, Prashanth five for 54) bt Kapali CC 174 in 32 overs (Sridhar 42)' Engrades CC 216 in 38.2 overs (R. Jagadish 88, Narasimhalu four for 74) lost to Chintamani SC 218 for nine in 46.5 overs (Ashok 51)' Malleswaram UCC 315 in 48 overs (Sarfaraz 79) bt Blue Diamond Cricketers 208 in 37.2 overs (Keshava Reddy 64, Anand five for 54, Satish four for 68). Yankees CC 395 in 50 overs (Eshwar 84, Venkatesh 83, Abhijith 73, Praveen five for 138) bt St. Joseph's College 199 in 33.2 overs (Deepak 67, Venkatesh five for 62); Canarese CC 101 in 29.4 overs (Prithvi four for 18) lost to Shanthinagar CC 102 for 3 in 27.4 overs (Naveen 53 n.o.).
MEG, KSP win again
MEG and Karnataka State Police recorded their third straight wins in the State `A' division men's handball championship on Tuesday. Premnath slammed in 12 goals and powered KSP to a resounding 52-19 victory over BYCYA . Pemmaiah and Srikanth chipped in with four goals apiece for KSP, while Girish and Anantharam scored five goals each for BCYA. MEG defeated Star Shooters 28-15, its win marked by good display from Wajid Ali (six goals), Jitesh, Sajesh and Sarvana (five each), while Sunil was the main scorer for Star Shooters with five goals.
