PONDICHERRY: A group of DMK men allegedly entered into the Returning Officer's room and created a ruckus over the alleged non-inclusion of certain names in the Nellithope constituency on Tuesday. On a complaint from the Chief Electoral Officer, police have registered cases against DMK leader R.V. Janakiraman, his son and a few other party activists. Police have filed cases under Sections 143, 353, 379 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code for unlawful assembly, deterring the electoral officer from discharging duty and taking away government records. The incident happened at around noon. The DMK leader and other members barged into the office and complained that around 2,000 names were missing in the electoral roll published on February 24. The staff said they would look into the issue and asked the members to note the complaint in the Register for General Public kept in the office. The members shouted slogans and took away the Register and some office papers. They returned the book and papers after more than three hours. Officials in the Chief Electoral Office told The Hindu that they have taken up the issue with the EC.
