Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: A meeting of the Pondicherry unit of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) adopted a resolution here on Sunday, urging the Central Government to establish a Regional Provident Fund office in Pondicherry. The meeting, chaired by State INTUC president G. Ravichandran, also called upon the Pondicherry administration to pursue the matter with the Central Government authorities. Mr. Ravichandran said: "A resolution thanked Pondicherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Pradesh Congress Committee leader P. Shanmugham for the Government's successful take-over of Swadeshi Cotton Mills and Sri Bharathi Mills from the National Textiles Corporation." The Government must hand over arrears of revised wages to the mill employees soon, he demanded. Other resolutions were: modernise the AFT, Swadeshi and Bharathi mills, fill vacant posts in Government-run undertakings and government control of all loss-making co-operative societies.
