Cut in duty welcomed

BANGALORE: Healthcare professionals here are happy with the budget proposals as reduction in customs duty on certain life-saving drugs and equipment is envisaged.

The Finance Minister has proposed to reduce customs duty on 10 anti-AIDS and 14 anti-cancer drugs to five per cent, and reduction in duty on certain life-saving drugs and equipment from 15 per cent to five per cent.

Vishal Bali, Chief Executive Officer, Wockhardt Hospitals said the reduction in import duty on equipment is welcome. It is a step towards rationalisation of import duty on equipment.
