NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh MPs from across the political spectrum on Tuesday urged Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to include a set of proposals including new lines, gauge conversion, new survey lines and new trains.

An all-party delegation consisting of MPs from Congress, Telugu Desam Party, the Telengana Rashtra Samiti and the Left parties demanded new superfast trains connecting New Delhi and Secunderabad, Secunderabad to Bangalore, Secunderabad to Visakhapatnam and Visakhapatnam and Chennai.

In a joint memorandum to the Railway Minister, the MPs said the Dharamavaram-Pakalal line sanctioned in 1996-97 required Rs. 50 crores and said he should release fund so that gauge conversion work could start in Rayalseema region.

They demanded Rs. 175 crores for new lines construction. These included Rs. 75 crores for Peddapalli-Karimnagar-Nizamabad, sanctioned in 1993-94; Rs. 50 crores for Nandyal-Yerramguntla sanctioned in 1996-97; Rs. 30 crores for Kotipaly-Narsapuram; and Rs. 20 crores for Kakinada -Petapuram.

New railway lines and gauge conversion which they said were feasible especially in the wake of socio-economic conditions identified were: the Cuddapah-Bangalore; Guntakal-Kallur; Jaggayyapeta-Vishnupuram or Jagayyaate-Mellacheruyu; Vijayawada-Repalle; and

Bhadrachalam-Ashwaraopeta -Sattupally-Jangareddigudem.

The MPs said the routes identified for survey requiring funds included the Raidurga-Tumkur via Kalayanadurga-Bhaoguda-Madeksira-Madhugiri; Hyderabad-Guntur-Vijayawada via Nadikudi (doubling survey); Vijayawada-Narsapuram; Gurupur to Raigada.

In addition, the memorandum said a division should be established at Kazipeta along with existing six divisions of South Central Zone and merge Waltair Division with South Central Railway with headquarters at Secunderabad or make Visakhapatnam the headquarters of East Coast Railway instead of Bhubaneswar.
