The Banyan calls for volunteers for Basant Utsav

Special Correspondent

Fundraiser on March 4 at Dakshin Chitra will feature a music concert

CHENNAI: If you have the desire to support a cause but not the money here's an opportunity after your own heart.

The Banyan needs volunteers who can lend a helping hand for two days for this year's edition of `Basant Utsav', the fundraiser coming on March 4 at Dakshin Chitra.

The year's Basant Utsav features Sivamani, Vikku Vinayakram, Bikram Ghosh, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Rakesh Chaurasia and Kalamandalam Gopalakrishnan in concert.

"After `Netru Indru Nalai', which happened on February 5, it's certainly not child's play to produce another equally successful event. However, the need for funding remains acute, with two new constructions underway in Kovalam and two initiatives being introduced while there are still 380 women under care at our shelter," says Vandana of The Banyan.

"We not only require financial support but also the time and skills of dedicated volunteers, who will be able to help us out for a couple of days," says Vaishnavi. "We welcome individuals from all walks of life to enrol in our volunteer programme and help us in our mission."

Those interested in signing up as volunteers can call Mathew at 9840285101.

Some of the artistes will visit The Banyan to spend time with the inmates on the eve of the programme.

Basant Utsav is hosted by Maagrita and Jeppiaar Engineering College in association with Madras Mylapore Ladies Circle No. 4, and is supported by several corporates.

Ambika Ravindran, chairperson of Madras Mylapore Ladies Circle No. 4, says, "As women, we feel for the cause of destitute women in The Banyan's and their philosophy of empowerment."
