Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Kaladipet, Thiruvottiyur, Kilpauk and MKB Nagar on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Health programme

The Hindu Mission Hospital organised a medical camp at the Vedanthangal government high school.

Over 200 persons were treated for various ailments.

Two were recommended for general surgery and 19 for eye surgery.

Eye and dental camp

The Singhvi Charitable Trust organised an eye and dental camp at the Government Primary School, K.R. Palayam, Thiruvallur, on Sunday. A total of 480 persons were screened, 210 spectacles distributed and 138 were given medicines. Fifty-seven were given treatment for dental problems and 75 referred for surgery.

Management sciences symposium

A management sciences symposium was held at the SA Engineering College on Saturday. K.M. Padmanabhan of the Madras Management Association inaugurated a students' chapter of the Association.

R.K. Jain of the Allahabad Bank delivered a talk on Emerging Frontiers in Management Challenges.

C. Gopalakrishnan of Projects E-funds spoke on IT in banking industry.

College day celebrations

The T.S. Narayanaswami College of Arts & Science, Navalur, celebrated its Tenth College Day on February 17 at Bala Mandir German Hall, T. Nagar. G. Balakrishnan, Secretary, India Cements Ltd, gave away the prizes.

B. Bhaskaran studying B.Com and T.E. Vasumathy studying B.Sc. Biochemistry won the awards for the best outgoing students.

Exhibition of Japanese dolls

The Consulate General of Japan and the ABK-AOTS Dosokai, Tamil Nadu Centre, are conducting a Japanese Dolls Exhibition from Thursday to Saturday at the ABK-AOTS Dosokai, 110, Nelson Manickam Road, Aminjikarai. The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Seminar on networking

The T.J. Institute of Technology and the Thangavelu Engineering College organised a seminar on trends in networking on Saturday.

C. Chellappan of the Anna University said advent of grid computing meant that entrepreneurial opportunities opened up by new technology could be undertaken at low investment and risk.

Chief Minister thanked

The Southern India Cinematographers' Association has thanked the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for announcing Kalaimamani award for cinematographers also from 2006.

In a statement the association noted that it had last year urged the Chief Minister to give the award to cinematographers also.

Now the Chief Minister had acceded to their request and also presented the award to a cinematographer.
