Temple desecration: carpenter held

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Chatrinaka police on Tuesday arrested a carpenter R. Chiranjeeva Chary, 22, holding him responsible for the desecration of a temple in Lalitabagh of Chatrinaka two days ago.

On the night of incident, Chary consumed liquor after entering into an argument with his father-in-law over a family matter, Chatrinaka Sub-Inspector P. Srinivas told The Hindu . "The carpenter confessed to us that he damaged photos of the temple in drunken condition," the SI said.

A resident of Bayyalalnagar, Chary was blessed with a baby girl two months ago. His wife and kid were at his in-laws house but the carpenter never used to go there since he developed differences with his father-in-law. Police said that Chary was abused by his father-in-law on Saturday last. "The apparently frustrated carpenter consumed liquor, went to the temple, threw out the photos and set them on fire," Mr. Srinivas explained. Incidentally, hours before desecrating the temple at Lalitabagh, Chary damaged the `Mata' temple in Bayyalalnagar.
