RSI Day observed

HYDERABAD: Not many people know what Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) are though they themselves suffer from them, according to myotherapist Venkata Ramana Rao. Speaking on the occasion of the RSI Day observed the world over on February 28, he said software professionals were more prone than anyone else to muscle imbalance, body ache and stress related to working endlessly and adopting the wrong posture as they sit at the monitor.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, where the patient experiences a tingling sensation in the wrist, shoulder pain, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome which occurs due to heavy text messaging over the phone, simultaneously typing and speaking over the phone etc. constitute RSI.

Professionals may experience RSI in different stages, starting with occasional and sporadic pain to pain that is experienced on a sustained basis.

Placing the mouse next to the keyboard and typing without resting your wrist on the keyboard relaxes wrist and muscles, he explained.
