THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Vigilance team on Tuesday arrested a sales tax official, Krishnakumar, on the charge of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.3,000 from the owner of a Kovalam-based hotel. A Vigilance Department official said the hotel owner, Nishanth, had submitted the hotel accounts for 2004-'05 to Krishnakumar, who is a luxury tax official attached to the office of the Sales Tax Deputy Commissioner at Vanchiyoor here. The accused had demanded Rs.3,000 as bribe for ratifying the accounts, the official said. He had threatened to slap a fine of Rs.3 lakhs on the hotel owner if he failed to pay up. Acting on the basis of a complaint from Nishanth, a Vigilance team headed by Dy.S.P. K. Sreekumaran Nair trapped the accused. Special Correspondent
