HYDERABAD: A city-based farmer, C. Venkat Reddy, who got clearance for a world patent for his innovative method of improving soil fertility without using pesticides and fertilizers, has been selected to interact with U.S. President George W. Bush in Hyderabad on Friday. Mr. Reddy would lead a team of farmers who would interact with Mr. Bush at Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University. Mr. Reddy, a progressive farmer hailing from Alwal locality of the twin cities, got a highest yield of 10.31 tonnes of paddy per hectare and 6.5 tonnes of wheat per hectare (as against the average yield of 5-6.5 tonnes of paddy and 2.5 - 3 tonnes of wheat) after using his innovative technique of increasing the soil fertility. The ICAR and ANGRAU scientists had monitored the crop patterns.
Eco-friendly technique
Mr. Reddy's efforts to get a world patent fructified when the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) cleared the patent claim. Mr. Reddy is expected to brief the US President about the innovative technique, which could bring about another Green Revolution, if implemented by the farming community across the globe. The eco-friendly technique of farming is inexpensive and totally environment-friendly, Mr. Reddy told The Hindu .
