dated March 3, 1956: Tusker presented to Shah

Their Majesties the Shah and the Empress of Iran arrived in Mysore on March 1 by car from Bangalore. They were received at the Lalita Mahal Palace by the Mysore Rajpramukh, who introduced them to prominent officials and non-officials present. On behalf of Prime Minister Nehru, the Rajpramukh of Mysore presented an elephant to the Shah of Iran when he and the Empress and party visited the Zoological Gardens in Mysore City in the afternoon. The Royal party was received there by Dr. Mari Gowda, Superintendent of Horticulture and Zoological Gardens, and taken round. The function got up to present the elephant was attended among others by Mr. K. Hanumanthaiya, Chief Minister of Mysore, Mr. Muthanna, Chief Conservator of Forests, and Mr. N. Puttaranga Samy, Chief Secretary to Government.
