BIDAR: A comprehensive census of children was launched in Bidar on Thursday. The census targeting schoolchildren between 6 and 14 years will help the Government identify dropouts and bring them back to school, Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil said.
Database
It will also provide a database to help formulate policies on education, he added. He asked teachers not to leave out any child in the census. Bidar Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Antony Mendonca asked teachers to undertake the census work sincerely. Zilla panchayat President Anil Bhusare asked all stakeholders to take the programme seriously.
Seriousness sought
"It is usually found that such projects are not implemented seriously. This distorts statistics and frustrates the efforts of the Government in drafting welfare programmes. It also prevents dropouts from getting the benefits of the Government's educational policies," he said and added that such a situation should not be repeated. Zilla panchayat vice-president Jyoti Charan Singh Rathod, Deputy Director of Public Instruction S.R. Manhalli, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan coordinator S. B Kuchabal and others were present.
