GULBARGA: Preparations are in full swing for the ninth Gulbarga District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Abbe Tumkur near Yadgir in Gulbarga district on March 5 and 6. Over 1,000 delegates are expected to participate in the sammelana. The former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash will inaugurate the sammelana while writer Vasant Kustagi will deliver the presidential address. Gulbarga Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Veerabhadra Simpi Nelogi said a huge pandal at Sri Sadguru Vishwaradhya Sidda Samasthan Math at Abbe Tumkur with a seating capacity of over 10,000 is ready.
He said that on March 5, sammelan reception committee chairman and Yadgir MLA Veerabasantreddy Mudnal will hoist the national flag while he will hoist the official flag of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. Sammelan president Prof. Kustagi will be taken out in a procession at the pilgrim town of Abbe Tumkur accompanied by traditional bands. The Peetadhipathi of Vishwaradhya Sidda Samasthan Math, Sri Gangadar Mahaswamigalu, will preside over the inaugural function. Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur will release the souvenir.
The two-day proceedings of the sammelan have been divided into 12 panel discussions on various subjects, including the Gulbarga district's contribution to Tatwapada and Kalagyana literature. The sammelan will host two poets' meets and cultural programmes on both the days. A special panel discussion on "Swarna Karnataka Sambrama-Hyderabad Karnataka" will be held on the concluding day, and the former Minister Vaijnath Patil will chair the deliberations. At the end of the sammelan, resolutions will be adopted. Mr. Nelogi said parishat president Chandrasekhar Patil will deliver the valedictory address and Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur will be the chief guest. Sixty personalities from different fields will be honoured for their contribution to the development of the region.
