Bangalore: The inauguration of the newly-constructed K. N. Guruswamy Lounge (located above the bookmakers' ring at the Bangalore Turf Club), at the hands of Mr. R. Surender Reddy, Chairman of the Hyderabad Race Club, marked the commencement of the 44th Indian Turf Invitation Cup week-end proceedings. Addressing the gathering of professionals, officials and the media who had assembled, Mr. Marilingiah, Chairman, Turf Authorities of India, welcomed all who attended the press conference. He also took the opportunity to thank the sponsors, which included The Hindu, Usha Stud & Agricultural Farms Pvt. Ltd., Capricorn Stud Farm Pvt. Ltd., Nanoli Stud & Agrl. Farm, Sans Craintes Stud Farm Pvt. Ltd., Mysore Race Club Ltd., and Century Building Industries Pvt. Ltd. Master of Ceremonies, the affable Cyrus J. Madan, then took over the microphone and introduced a pair of audio-visual presentations highlighting the Garden City of Bangalore and the previous runnings of this meeting of champions. These made for interesting viewing and were slickly produced by S. N. Harish. Thereafter, a question-answer session was held where the connections were quizzed regarding the prospects of their runners, following which likely ante-post odds were indicated by some leading bookmakers. For the record, Mystical will be the probable favourite in the premier event, with Hesperus and Oyster Cove vying for honours in The Hindu Sprinters Cup, and Forever Elegance in the Stayers Cup.
