BANGALORE: The National swimming camp for the Asian Championship and Commonwealth Games concluded at the SAI pool here on Thursday and the Indian squad later left for Singapore. The team first participates in the Asian championship at Singapore between March 5 and 10 and later proceeds to Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games. The swimming events begin at Melbourne begin on March15. Commenting on the 45 day camp, the National coach S. Pradeep Kumar told The Hindu: "It was perhaps the longest National camp in recent years and it had gone well and all the swimmers are in fine shape"."We worked to achieve a peak performance at the Asian championship, where we stand a chance of figuring in the finals. We pin our hopes on good show from all, especially from Shikha Tandon, Arjun Muralidharan and Rehan Poncha", added the coach. Regarding the Commonwealth Games, Pradeep Kumar said that the competition would be tough considering the World class field which includes top swimmers from Australia and Canada. "But I expect our swimmers to record their best times at the meet", said Kumar. The teams: For the Asian Championship: Men: Arjun Muralidharan, Rehan Poncha, and Puneet Rana. Women: Shikha Tandon. For Commonwealth Games: Men: Arjun Muralidharan, Rehan Poncha, Puneet Rana, Mandar Divase and Veerender Dewalkar. Women: Shubha Chittaranjan and Shikha Tandon.
