News Analysis
National Science Day is observed on February 28 every year. It was on this day in 1928 that C.V. Raman announced his landmark discovery. We got the year wrong and had it as 1930, the year in which Raman received the Nobel prize ("Science inspires action for progress", Editorial page, March 2, 2006). A reader asserted that in the interview with director K. Balachander, (Friday Review, February 24, 2006, Chennai and Tamil Nadu), the single long shot of the heroine Saritha referred to was from the film "Agni Satchi" (1982), and not from "Achamillai, Achamillai". What the interviewer said was correct, the director and the actor tell us. Avian flu seems to be so much on the minds of people that "foul" turned into "fowl" ("This week's question", Science & Technology/Agriculture, March 2, 2006). But it has not escaped the eyes of an alert reader. "Bake these in a jiffy" in the Metroplus (Chennai, Page 3, February 28, 2006) has two readers raising questions over the picture used and the classification of two of the three recipes. They are right. Two of the dishes are not baked, nor does the picture have only baked stuff. It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible.
