Mahendra Gupta bags gold

HYDERABAD: Mahendra Gupta of Army Ordnance Corps took the 20-km walk gold in the Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka & Kerala (ATNK & K) Area athletics meet at the Artillery Centre here on Thursday.

The results:

20-km walk: 1. Mahendra Gupta 1:36.08 (AOC); 2. Ashutosh Choudhary (Artillery); 3. Ajay Kumar (MRC); Pole vault: 1. Karambir Singh (Arty) 4.10m; 2. K. Shiva Kumar (MRC); 3. Vijender Kumar (EME); Hammer: 1. Uday Bhan Yadav (EME) 57.60m; 2. Manjit Singh (Arty); 3. Manoj Kumar Y. (AOC).

Shankar in semifinals

Top-seeded V. Shankar of Delhi moved into the semifinals of the 45 & above category with a 6-2, 6-0 win over K. Mehar Prakash (AP) in the RR Movie Makers AITA veterans' National tennis tournament, organised by Surya Tennis Foundation, in Hyderabad on Thursday.
