Staff Correspondent
FOR A CAUSE: Members of the Hubli-Dharwad Mahanagara Zilla Congress Committee submitting a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar in Dharwad on Thursday urging him to take steps to increase the number of stamp paper outlets in Hubli.
DHARWAD: The Hubli-Dharwad Mahanagar Zilla Congress Committee has urged M.S. Srikar, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad district, to take steps to open more outlets selling stamp paper in Hubli. Office-bearers of the committee led by Prasad Abbaiah of the District Congress Committee, met Mr. Srikar here on Thursday and explained to him the problems being faced by people in getting stamp paper. They informed the Deputy Commissioner that there is only one stamp paper outlet in Hubli at the State Bank of Mysore branch on Coen Road, which has to cater to the needs of people of Hubli city and taluk, Kalghatgi taluk and Kundagol taluk. Everyday people from the city and neighbouring villages and taluks have to wait for hours in queues to buy stamp paper. Although there is only one outlet for three taluks, the sale of stamp paper is restricted to three hours a day (from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.), they said. Earlier, in Hubli there was another stamp paper outlet at the Vidyanagar branch of the State Bank of India. However, services there have been discontinued, they said. Nazir Ahmed Kolkar, Babajan Mudhol, Rajshekhar Mensinkai, Kiran Hombal and others were part of the delegation. The Deputy Commissioner promised to look into the issue.
